The Importance of Creating Effective Bulletin Boards in the Language Classroom.

Whenever you think about teaching a second language, one thing that immediately comes to your mind the material you will use to present the class to your students. As a good teacher one should be familiarized with many of the teaching wide variety of materials that there exist, anyhow, I will write about a specific material that, in fact, is a teacher live saver and an English class improver, "The Bulletin Baard"

For years, Bulletin Boards have been essential part of classrooms physical structure, nevertheless this material has not form an important instrument on the teaching process itself. They are kept inside classroom as a decorative item only, losing in this way most of their usages in educational or specific purposes. Actually, they are the perfect tool to increase the learning level of a topic in the class, create interactive studying areas and have extra material to study.

Why is it so important to create effective bulletin boards in the classroom? In fact, Effective created bulletin boards can have grant excellent results in language classrooms. A well-constructed bulletin board becomes a reliable information source for student learning a second language. In addition, this bulletin board will provide the learner with extra help and a space for getting the necessary data on the topics being covered during the previous or upcoming classes.

As I wrote before, different reasons why bulletin boards are important in the language classroom can be listed, so I will give you some of those reasons that will have you, teachers, professors, or instructors, motivated to perfection and enhance the usage of bulletin boards in your language classrooms:

1. Approach a new unit: you can introduce a new topic. Important details that will help the learner to know in advance the most important information on what they will cover in class.

2. To develop a unit: during the moments you are working or developing a unit or topic, making a good bulletin board to place information which may b relevant. it will also provide some extra practice and materials for further research.

3. To summarize a unit: the facilitator may use it as a class project that help the students to memorize the necessary material.

4. To decorate the class according to the season or celebration: depending on the season, values or any other celebration which is being celebrated in the school or as a national or globally celebrated.

5. To give school or class important information: it is very important to be notified of anything happening in our job or school environment so using then bulletin board as a tool give information to other is a very good idea. An amount of things can be added to that informative bulletin board, from school meetings to students’ birthdays or achievements (I added this because I believe it is valuable information that gives student a sense of belonging)

6. To give the learners the opportunity to collaborate and participate: in fact, this is not a job the teacher should do by him/herself. This is a student work, and the teacher is just an advisor or a monitor that will guide and provide the right instructions for them to do an excellent job.

As you could see, using a bulletin board in the classroom is as important and necessary. Be creative and use them so your classes can have and extra source for student to find answer to their questions. Continue to be a good teacher and use your classroom bulletin board to enrich your classes.
